VTV Team Member: Jeff G. Holt

Jeff G. Holt is The Founder and Editorial Director of V-Twin Visionary, a custom and performance information entity that positively promotes American V-Twin motorcycling and the people who ride and/or build them. 

Holt’s love for anything with two wheels started with racing and riding BMX as a child in Southern California. His professional career started with sweeping the floors of a local bicycle shop at the age of 13. That turned into 25 years in the bicycle and action sports industries, seeing the world from two wheels with roles ranging from product design and development to race mechanic to running his own marketing and sales firm.

Holt worked as a freelance journalist for the cycling magazines Bike and Bicycling, which was his first foray into writing. Holt then received a rather strange call from Courtney Halowell, who at the time was the American Motorcycle Group’s Editorial Director. For years Halowell had read what Holt had written previously, both in Bike and in press releases for the various BMX, Mountian Bike and Skateboarding companies he had worked with. Halowell sensed Holt could make it as a journalist and admired the assorted custom Harley-Davidson motorcycles Holt had built as a hobby, so he asked if Holt wanted to give an editorial position a shot. Holt had a newborn at home and was looking for less travel and a bit more job security than an independent small business could provide, so Holt jumped in with both feet.

 Holt started as an associate editor of Baggers magazine and made his way up to the editor position of Street Chopper two years later. He then bounced around on all three of the American Motorcycle Group’s titles, where he headed up both print and online special projects, and then he was promoted to the editor of Hot Bike. A year and a half later, Holt was promoted to editor-in-chief of Hot Bike and then brand director of the American Motorcycle Group shortly after that, running all three of the titles, their online entities, and events/shows. Like all good things, this came to an end with corporate downsizing and the demise of corporate print magazine publishing.

 On July 4th, 2019, Jeff Holt launched V-Twin Visionary with his partner David Roe. www.vtwinvisionary and @vtwinvisionary cover the real stories and news of customizing American-made V-Twin motorcycles through personal design and fabrication as well as the addition of aftermarket products to these types of machines. V-Twin Visionary also has a nine-show Performance Motorcycle Show series with Harley Davidson that traverses the USA, combining brands with builders. Jeff and the crew have also launched the V-Twin Visionary Speed & Style Showcase, an event that presents the technical side of custom bike builds as art. VTV is also in its third year of throwing one hell of a riding rally known as the Smoky Mountain Tour in the mountains surrounding Alcoa, Tennessee.
