We’re amped that Rockford Fosgate is sponsoring the inaugural V-Twin Visionary Sturgis Smash motorcycle ride. You should come with us, too.
In 1973, Jim Fosgate discovered that music and the human ear have different audio properties. The human ear didn’t have the same sonic “curve,” or signature, as actual music. As a result, lower frequencies sound different at low volumes than the music does. He invented a solution, the Frequency Energizer. It evolved into the Punch EQ that added bass and treble boosts for better sound reproduction for the ear.
Jim and his audio enthusiast friends spent long days and late nights developing the first Fosgate product for consumers. That was the PR-7000 amplifier. He demo’ed it at the the 1973 Consumer Electronics Show in Chicago. He used a Frequency Energizer circuit with it. The cirucit compensated for acoustical anomalies commonly found in the cockpit of a car. His innovation emphasized car audio sound quality. From that, the company we now know as Rockford Fosgate was born.
Total control was key to the whole system. The Punch gave Mr. Fosgate’s first customers the impact that their music needed. Now that same Punch is the backbone of Rockford Fosgate. And you can hear it in everything they make.

Like their motorcycle audio, for example. The company offers a range of kits across the Harley-Davidson bagger lineup, from Road Glides to Road Kings, CVO to Street Glide.
One of those its is this two-speaker, 400 watt high performance audio system. It’s designed for select 2014+ Harley-Davidson motorcycles Road Glides and Street Glides. The 6.5-inch fairing speakers are frequency-response tuned to overcome wind, exhaust, and road noise.
Additionally, the 400-watt amplifier features two channels for the fairing speakers and two more channels for Tour Paks or saddlebag speakers. Each kit also includes an external heat-sink, mounting brackets, speaker and power wiring, and hardware.
The Sturgis Smash starts August 5th in Phoenix, Arizona and lands at the Sturgis Buffalo Chip. We’ll have updates for you not only here on the site but also on Facebook and Instagram.
